Mabuhay!

I’m Anna, a Filipina living in Sydney learning to be Australian since 2005, with my husband, four adult kids (one already married) and a male Labrador.

For years, I’ve been championing Filipino cuisine in my old blog, which pivoted to social media and then advocating through a non-profit community organisation which I founded in 2018. My love language is eating and cooking, and I love sharing my passion for Filipino food to everyone I meet. The Philippine’s cuisine is so diverse I only started learning more about it, while living in Australia! I believe food is the gateway to one’s culture, and… eating, tasting and cooking a particular cuisine is an appreciation of the heritage and traditions of that culture.

During our early years in Australia, as a mum to young girls, my intention was to cook and serve as much Filipino food on the table, for my girls to bridge that connection to their roots while surrounded by Australian influences. At the same time, learning to cook other dishes, immersing in other cuisines inspired by cookbooks from the local library, television and learning from people I meet.

Over the years, I have evolved as a person, a mother, a migrant in our new home. And my cooking and food followed, gaining more skills and technique from cooking school and being more adventurous in the kitchen.

I am here to share my love for Filipino food and hope to inspire the next generation of Filipino Australians to embrace and celebrate their culinary identity, and invite the wider community to get to know more about the Philippine’s colourful cuisine.
